As you know in YachtEye we use the map solution to display data like for example:

For that, we use ESRI. They are the market leader in geographical information systems and have one of the most extended toolsets for software integration. Imagery is a highly complex product, as a lot of corrections need to be performed to transform satellite photos to good quality imagery. This is to hide clouds from pictures, lightning issues (summer vs winter, noon vs sun-up) and consistency issues. For this reason, only big companies like ESRI, Google and Bing are working in this industry.
